Using Laser to Reshape Cornea & Correct Error by Using Modern Technology
How modern laser technology reshapes the cornea to correct refractive errors and reduce dependence on glasses.
LASIK and other corneal reshaping procedures use focused laser energy to gently reshape the surface of the eye, correcting the way light bends onto the retina. For patients with short-sightedness, long-sightedness, or astigmatism, this can mean sharper vision without depending on glasses or contact lenses every day.
Laser vision correction reshapes the cornea with precision, offering many patients freedom from glasses and contact lenses.
Dr. Ajay Panchal
During the procedure, a thin flap is created on the surface of the cornea and the laser corrects the underlying tissue with sub-micron precision, guided by a detailed map of your eye taken during the pre-surgery evaluation. The procedure itself typically takes only a few minutes per eye, and most patients notice a visible improvement in their vision within a day.
Not everyone is a candidate for LASIK. A thorough evaluation checks your corneal thickness, prescription stability, and overall eye health before we recommend the procedure. Patients with very thin corneas, certain retinal conditions, or an unstable prescription may be better suited to alternative treatments, which we discuss openly during your consultation.
Additional information
Recovery is usually quick. Most patients experience mild dryness or light sensitivity for the first few days, managed with prescribed eye drops, and can return to normal activities within a week. Follow-up visits let us track healing and confirm that your vision has stabilised.
If you're tired of glasses or contact lenses and want to know whether LASIK is right for you, book a consultation with Dr. Ajay Panchal. A detailed eye exam is the first step to finding out.
